What is a Groodle, what coat is that, what Gen/Generation is that, what size is that...

Dougall, a liver nose from Ginger Jill and Banjo
What are Groodles?
Groodles are Golden Retriever & Poodle mixed – first crossed to give the Golden Retriever assistant dog ability to a hypoallergenic coated dog, the poodle is a bright dog too, so the combo produces an intuitive and excellent assistant dog, medical alert dog, therapy dog or family pet. (In America they are called Goldendoodles)
Groodle Coats Types:
Wool:
A wool coat is like a poodle coat, non-shedding tight curls, very woolly feel to it– you need to brush.
Poodle, our late Jackemms, a mini red poodle, wool coat
Fleece:

A fleece coat can vary from a curly fleece to a wavy or flat fleece.
Rosie is a light curly fleece
This is one of Rosie's babies, this is what Rosie looked like as a baby

And Banjo is a wavy/flat fleece.

Generations:

In the Groodle world we talk about F1 F2 F1b and multi-gen etc, here is an explanation of what all this means!
F1 Groodle is the first cross between these breeds which results in 50% Golden Retriever & 50% Poodle, though obviously there can be a stronger throw to one of the parents or the other – this will be obvious in the looks and coat type. The coat of a F1 is usually a FLEECE coat and may shed lightly.
F1b is a F1 Groodle back mated with a poodle, resulting in 75% poodle 25% golden retriever. The coat of this f1b is usually WOOL and is non-shedding.
Or F1b is a F1 Groodle back mated with a Goldie, resulting in a 75% Goldie, 25% poodle. Which results in a flatter fleece which may shed but some do not, and I personally find I am not allergic to their fleece where as I react to Goldie hair!

Multi generation Groodles are when both patents are F1 Groodles or F1b or F2 etc Groodles

They may be 2nd 3rd and 4th etc generation and can produce wool or fleece coated pups. I have found that the flat fleeces do not moult or moult very little and are less allergic than the Goldie. None of the puppies that are flat fleeced ever moult as much a as Goldie, moulting is minimal… though of course I cannot 100% guarantee this.
The flat and way fleeces are the easiest to maintain, with the least brushing. The wool coat is the most difficult and time consuming coat to look after well.
Groodle sizes:
Standard Groodles: A Standard Poodles is used with a Goldie. And so these are he largest of the Groodles 25 kgs to 40+ kgs. They are now calling the upper weights in this category, a Giant Groodle
Medium/Miniature Groodle: A miniature poodle Dad parent is used with a Goldie (usually, but not always, AI is used) or in the cross-backs. 15 kgs to 25 kgs
Small Groodle are often a multi gen F1b with miniature or toy poodle parents and can be 10kgs to 15 kgs
This is a guide only and on my experience and the experience and help of Susie too!
